Aubusson Weaves Tolkien 20260917

10 members and guests visited under the guidance of a Museum guide (Cécile) the special exhibit « Aubusson weaves Tolkien » (Aubusson tisse Tolkien).

The South African born writer, poet and academic philologist and author of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and many other fantasy novels was born in 1892 and died in 1973 in Bournemouth, England.

The town of Aubusson was asked to make 14 wall tapestry and 2 riugs some JRR Tolkien prints with the authorization of the Tolkien siblings. They started weaving in 2015 and it lasted untill 2023. The result can be seen in Angers at the Jean Lurçat Museum for Modern Tapestry and later it will travel to the Chateau de Versailles and Oxford.
