143rd Cultural Outing at the Museum Of Natural Sciences

 

Inge organized this 143rd cultural visit in this 220 year old museum of natural history on a sunny fall afternoon. 

After some confusion about the entree fees, we, 14 of us, led by Léo, the Museums of Angers tour guide, throughout this maze of rooms in historical buildings showing off part of their 800 000 pieces of their precious collections, witnessing the diversity of the present world and the evaluation of nature.

Les then 10 percent is being showcased here in two historical building.

One part is the former mansion (hôtel) Demarie-Valentin and its former ducal palace and former appeals court (and before the courts the Angers’ City Hall) in downtown Angers, representing its natural local patrimony as well as the history  and pre- history of the Anjou region.

The other part, is  the site of the Arboretum Gaston-Allard.    There, on this site, are the botanical collections of the City of Angers. More than 350 000 species tell the story of the 19th and 20th century flora. 

Léo was a passionate and truly professional guide telling us about the history and the future plans of the museum (restoration and additions) as well as its collections, how to preserve them for the future and new exhibits on display now. 

Questions were answered by Léo in such a  kind manner that time flew spending about 2 hours in this gem of a museum, just located near our office on Place Imbach.
